British Values
Embedding British Values at Stanley Primary School
At Stanley Primary School, we integrate British values throughout our curriculum to enhance our pupils' spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. Here's how we bring these values to life:
Democracy
- Stanley School Council: Our elected pupil representatives discuss school issues, helping children understand representation and the value of each vote.
- Classroom Activities: Pupils participate in decisions like classroom rules or book choices, gaining hands-on experience with democratic processes.
- Visit to Parliament: Year 6 pupils visit Parliament, engaging in a 'Rule of Law' workshop and touring significant political sit
The Rule of Law
- Behaviour in School: We uphold high behaviour standards through our 'Behaviour to Learn' policy. Pupils strive to be 'Proud to be Purple' by embodying our S.M.A.R.T.E.R values, including being 'Sensible'.
- Curriculum Enrichment: Local constabulary visits enrich our curriculum, enhancing pupils' understanding of the law.
Individual Liberty
- Freedom of Choice: Pupils are encouraged to make learning choices and express opinions in a respectful environment.
- Pursuing Interests: We offer opportunities in arts, music, and sports, encouraging pupils to be 'Enthusiastic' and 'Aim High' in line with Stanley Values.
- Responsibility and Freedom: Pupils learn about rights and personal freedoms, with older students taking on roles like prefects and House Captains. E-safety is a regular focus, and being 'Responsible' is emphasized across school activities.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
- Cultural Celebrations: We foster understanding and appreciation of diversity through various cultural and religious festivals in RE and assemblies.
- Religious Education: Pupils explore different religions, asking questions and learning about diverse customs and beliefs.
- Circle Time: PSHCE lessons and circle time discussions on friendship, respect, and kindness help pupils appreciate and respect others.
These values are embedded in our daily activities, helping pupils develop a deep understanding and appreciation of the principles underpinning British society.
