Science Day 2024

Lesson: Science

The whole school had an exciting day on Wednesday 21st February for our annual Science Day. This year our theme matched the British Science Week theme of 'Time' and there were lots of interesting experiments and activities taking place across school.

- Reception were investigating how shadows are made and how they fall outside in different directions at different times of day, depending on the position of the sun before they made their own creative shadow puppets.

- Year 1 and 2 completed fair tests to compare different jellies containing different fruits to see which would set first. We had some great, thoughtful predictions for this!

- Year 3 were studying how sundials were used as an ancient way of measuring time and along with Year 4 were investigating how mould grows over time and created posters to advise the public on the actions they can take to reduce their risk of mould exposure.

- Year 5 were studying how animals have adapted over time to allow their species greater survival rates and Year 6 were learning about the technological advancements made to the agricultural industry and thought about what further inventions might be needed for the future.

All year groups had a go at making a water clock to see if it is an accurate time telling device and of course, our Science Day wouldn't be complete without a special science assembly, this year from Mad Science, who showed us some exciting experiments linked to inventions and discoveries over time.
